Air India Business Value and IndiGoStretch are examples of domestic fares offering 30 kg checked baggage. On international routes involving India, qualifying fares on Air India, IndiGo, Emirates, Air India Express and SpiceJet also include 30 kg.
However, the airline name alone is not enough. Your allowance depends on the route, fare, cabin and ticket conditions. Check whether 30 kg is included in the fare, purchased as extra weight or available through a connecting-flight benefit.
This guide compares practical options and explains whether you can pack 30 kg in one suitcase or divide it between two bags.
Before paying, check three things: total checked weight, number of permitted bags and maximum weight per bag. “30 kg total” and “two bags of 23 kg each” are different allowances.
Which Airlines Include 30 kg Checked Baggage?
The examples below identify specific options to look for during booking. They are not a promise that every flight or fare sold by the airline has the same allowance.
| Airline | Example offering 30 kg | Important condition |
|---|---|---|
| Air India | Domestic Business Value; Economy Classic from India to the Gulf and Middle East | Other fares and routes have different allowances. |
| IndiGo | Domestic IndiGoStretch; regular fares on listed international sectors such as Dubai, Doha and Singapore | Check route, fare and piece limits. |
| Emirates | Economy Flex on weight-concept routes | Standard Special and Saver weight allowances are lower. |
| Air India Express | Xpress Value and Flex to the Gulf and Singapore | Xpress Lite does not include complimentary checked baggage. |
| SpiceJet | Published international examples include India–Dubai, Sharjah and Jeddah | Confirm the allowance and availability for your actual flight. |

Air India: Which Domestic Fares Include More Baggage?
| Domestic fare | Included checked baggage |
|---|---|
| Economy Value | 15 kg |
| Economy Classic | 20 kg |
| Economy Flex | 25 kg |
| Business Value | 30 kg |
| Business Flex | 40 kg |
These are Air India-operated domestic allowances. Air India Express and partner-operated flights have separate conditions. International baggage can use either total weight or a piece allowance; check the specific route and fare.
Air India’s domestic policy allows two checked pieces when the included allowance is at least 25 kg; lower allowances include one. Dimensions still apply.
What happened to Vistara? Its merger into Air India was completed on 12 November 2024. It is no longer a separate airline to compare for a new booking. Use current Air India fare and baggage information. Source: Air India’s merger announcement.
IndiGo: 30 kg Is Available Beyond Paid Excess Baggage
IndiGo’s standard domestic allowance is generally 15 kg, subject to the fare purchased. Its premium domestic options provide more:
- IndiGoStretch: 30 kg checked baggage in two pieces.
- IndiGoStretch+: 40 kg checked baggage in two pieces.
Availability depends on the flight. Do not assume a seat-selection upgrade gives you the full baggage benefits of a different fare product.
International allowances vary substantially. For example, the published regular allowance for Bangkok and Bali is 20 kg, while several Gulf and Southeast Asian sectors offer 30 kg. Consult the route-specific table.
How much does IndiGo charge for extra baggage?
The published fees page currently lists domestic airport excess weight at ₹800 per kg. Prepaid packages and additional-piece charges are listed separately.
At that airport rate, an extra 15 kg would cost ₹12,000 for weight alone. This is an illustration, not a quote for every booking. Compare the current prepaid price and any higher-fare option before paying.
Buying extra kilograms does not necessarily buy another suitcase. Check whether your receipt increases weight, piece count or both.
Emirates: Economy Flex Includes 30 kg on Weight-Concept Routes
For journeys governed by Emirates’ weight concept, the standard Economy allowances are:
| Economy fare | Checked allowance |
|---|---|
| Special | 20 kg |
| Saver | 25 kg |
| Flex | 30 kg |
| Flex Plus | 35 kg |
Route exceptions apply. Journeys governed by the piece concept, including routes involving the Americas and Africa, have different rules. Do not apply this table automatically to an India–Dubai–USA itinerary.
On weight-concept journeys, Emirates permits multiple bags within the total allowance, subject to its size rules and a maximum of 32 kg per bag. Business Class has a 40 kg weight allowance. See Emirates checked baggage guidance.
Air India Express: Check the Fare Bundle and Destination
Air India Express publishes the following international examples:
- Xpress Value and Flex: 30 kg to the Gulf and Singapore.
- Xpress Value and Flex: 20 kg to Thailand and Nepal.
- Xpress Biz: 40 kg on its international routes, where the product is available.
- Xpress Lite: No complimentary checked baggage.

Can you carry 30 kg in one bag on Air India Express?
A 30 kg suitcase is below its published 32 kg maximum per piece, but your purchased allowance, bag dimensions and any route-specific conditions must also permit it. The maximum handling weight is not a free allowance. Check the baggage FAQ and your booking.
SpiceJet: Selected International Routes Include 30 kg
SpiceJet’s baggage FAQ lists 30 kg for routes including India to Dubai, Sharjah, Fujairah and Jeddah, with corresponding return-route entries. The Jeddah-to-India entry separately lists an allowance for Zamzam water.
These examples do not establish a 30 kg allowance on every domestic ticket. Check your flight’s current baggage entitlement and confirm that the route is available for your travel dates.
SpiceJet also publishes a paid connecting-international excess-baggage option, with advance-booking and connection-time conditions. Source: SpiceJet baggage FAQs.
Can You Put 30 kg in One Suitcase or Two Bags?
Both arrangements can be possible, but they are not interchangeable on every ticket. Check the total allowance, included piece count and individual bag limit.
| Ticket allowance | Packing example | Result |
|---|---|---|
| 30 kg total, two pieces permitted | 18 kg + 12 kg | Within the weight and piece allowance, subject to dimensions. |
| 30 kg total, one piece permitted | 15 kg + 15 kg | An extra-piece charge may apply despite the correct total weight. |
| Two pieces, each up to 23 kg | 30 kg + 16 kg | The first bag exceeds its individual allowance even though the total is 46 kg. |
| 40 kg total, maximum 32 kg per bag | One 40 kg suitcase | It exceeds the single-bag limit and needs repacking. |
Can you carry two bags totalling 30 kg on Air India?
For the domestic Business Value allowance described above, two pieces are permitted. For another itinerary, check its ticketed piece and weight conditions before packing.
Can you carry two bags totalling 30 kg on IndiGo?
IndiGoStretch includes two pieces. Other fares may have different piece limits or an additional-piece fee. A purchased weight add-on does not automatically establish the same entitlement.
32 kg is a common handling ceiling, not a universal free allowance. A ticket limited to 23 kg per piece can attract an overweight charge below 32 kg. Air India’s baggage FAQ confirms its 32 kg maximum per item; always check your airline and itinerary.
Does Your International Allowance Apply to a Domestic Connection?
Do not assume that arriving in India with 30 kg gives you the same allowance on a separately booked domestic flight.
Air India publishes international-allowance protection for domestic and international sectors on the same ticket. It also lists a separate-ticket benefit when both flights are Air India-operated and connect within 24 hours. Confirm eligibility against the current conditions.
Air India Express offers International Connection Baggage as prepaid excess baggage for eligible domestic connections. Its listed packages include 8 kg, 15 kg and 30 kg. These are paid add-ons, not a promise of free international baggage on every domestic ticket.
When different airlines are involved, ask for the baggage entitlement for each sector in writing. Through-checking and baggage allowance are separate questions: a bag being tagged onward does not by itself prove an extra allowance.

How to Find the Cheapest Ticket for 30 kg
Compare the complete price for the luggage you will actually carry. A lower headline fare is not always the cheaper journey.
- Weigh your packed luggage. Include the suitcase itself.
- Decide how many bags you need. Include any separate sports or equipment bag.
- Compare baggage-inclusive fares. Check whether a higher fare includes the weight and pieces you need.
- Price the lower fare with add-ons. Include extra kilograms, additional pieces and any special handling.
- Repeat the calculation for the return trip. Allowances and purchases may be sector-specific.
- Save the baggage confirmation. Keep the ticket and add-on receipt accessible at check-in.
Illustrative comparison: A ₹7,000 ticket plus ₹4,000 of required baggage costs ₹11,000. A ₹9,500 fare including the required baggage would be cheaper. These are example figures, not current airline quotes.
Also check whether a baggage purchase is refundable or transferable if you change flights. A cabin upgrade, loyalty benefit or special offer should be counted only after its baggage entitlement is confirmed.
See Air India vs IndiGo extra baggage fees for a focused comparison.
Before-You-Fly Checklist
- Weight: Is the ticket showing total kilograms or a limit per piece?
- Pieces: How many suitcases are included?
- Dimensions: Does each bag meet the applicable size limit?
- Connections: Does every flight accommodate your packed luggage?
- Cabin baggage: Check it separately; unused checked weight cannot automatically move into the cabin.
- Special items: Sports equipment and musical instruments may need separate arrangements.
- Return journey: Recheck the allowance and weigh any purchases.
Do not rely on a small overweight amount being ignored. Leave a little margin for packing changes and scale differences. Our guide explains what happens when luggage is 1 kg overweight.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which airlines allow 30 kg baggage on domestic flights in India?
The domestic examples above include Air India Business Value and IndiGoStretch. Other tickets can reach 30 kg through eligible benefits or paid baggage, but check the complete cost and piece entitlement.
Which airline gives 40 kg baggage?
Examples include Air India domestic Business Flex, IndiGoStretch+ on applicable domestic flights, Emirates Business on weight-concept routes and qualifying Air India Express Xpress Biz international bookings. Availability and conditions vary.
Can I put 30 kg in one bag?
Only when the ticket’s allowance, individual-bag limit and dimensions permit it. A two-piece allowance of 23 kg per bag does not allow you to combine that weight into one 30 kg suitcase without consequences.
Can I divide 30 kg between two bags?
Yes, if your ticket permits two pieces. If it includes only one, a second-bag charge may apply even when the combined weight remains within 30 kg.
Does buying 15 kg extra baggage give me a second suitcase?
Not necessarily. Extra weight and an additional piece can be separate purchases. Check the description and final receipt before paying.
Is IndiGo strict about baggage weight?
Plan to meet the published allowance. Staff can weigh baggage and apply the relevant charges. Another passenger’s experience of an overweight bag being accepted is not an entitlement.
Is 30 kg checked baggage the same as 23 kg checked plus 7 kg cabin baggage?
No. Checked and cabin baggage have separate allowances, dimensions and packing restrictions. Adding their weights together does not create a 30 kg checked-bag entitlement.
Should I still compare Vistara baggage allowances?
No, not for a new flight booking. Use the current Air India allowance attached to the fare and itinerary you are purchasing.
