I have purchased about 1 kg raw gold (not 100% pure because of mixture of other metals) which I would like to carry with me as my personal baggage. I am aware that there is a duty of Rs.250 per 10 grams on the gold import as personal baggage. I have the following question :

1. Whether raw gold (not 100% pure) can be imported as gold under personnal baggage rules or what is the defination of gold.

2. I do not have invoice / receipt showing the purchase of raw gold. Do I need to produce invoice / receipt at the time of custom payment. I don't think, it should be required because duty is charged on the weight, not on the amount actually paid.

3. What procedure I should follow to pay custome duty.

4. What should I do if the officer incharge creates a problem for me at the time of custom clearance.

I would like to have reply on my query.

Dear Sir,

I want to bring an LCD 32" from Bahrain to India. Please advice about Duty.

Thank You.
Felix

32" LCD normally can take without any customs duty. Last time when I had gone to Kochin airport customs didn't charge me anything. But I had to pay 2500/- Rs. for my 40" LCD. And my friend paid 4500/- for a 37" LED TV. Better to keep your bill and they will calculate on that amount. Otherwise they will charge you according to their price list.

I've sensed a parcel with clothes for my wife and kids to India, while I am visiting USA. Today my wife called me and said that she was forced to pay Rs. 2400 customs fees. Who can answer me what is all about??? Why do we have to pay. This is first time in all the years, as I use to send regular. It is a personal things!!! Not for sale. It is shameful to India, to do so. I felt so bad, as the parcel was open and checked. Who can answer me why Indian government doing this, what rights do they have to do this???????? Who can answer?
